For the past 21 years, J.D. Power has analyzed the emotional attachment and level of excitement that car owners have for their vehicles across 77 separate attributes. These attributes include things such as how a person feels as he or she is getting into the driver’s seat and how much power an individual feels when the person accelerates. J.D. Power rates vehicles and brands using a 1,000-point scale to determine which automobiles will receive its Automotive Performance, Execution, and Layout, or APEAL, awards in their respective classes.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave the Hyundai Tucson its Top Safety Pick+ rating, the highest rating possible. This means the compact SUV earned top marks in crashworthiness tests performed by the IIHS and the vehicle’s front crash prevention system earned a score of “advanced” or “superior.”
