Hyundai’s i20 WRC will debut at the 2014 Rallye Monte Carlo next month.
As Hyundai gears up to compete in the 2014 World Rally Championship with its i20 WRC, the Korean automaker also introduced an all-new sub-brand dedicated to performance.
Known only as “N”, Hyundai’s new performance arm aims to take the engineering and expertise from its rally racing efforts. The name is derived from Hyundai’s research and development centre in Naymang, South Korea. The facility collaborates with Hyundai Motorsport in Germany to build race-prepped cars, like the i20 WRC.
Unlike Subaru’s STI and Mitsubishi’s Ralliart, Hyundai N is is going to be linked directly to the company’s rally racing efforts. Hyundai is also planning a lineup of additional mass-produced high-performance cars — Hyundai Veloster Turbo N, anyone? — but whether or not they will make their way to North America remains to be seen.
